- Welcome and thank you for stopping by. I am embarking on a new journey, a new step, and a change of course. I had a perm for most of my life, but no more. I finally stopped the madness. No I wonder what took me so long to embrace my kinkiness.
March 23, 2011 marked two years since starting the locking process. Since beginning this lock journey my hair has grown longer and stronger. Some of my locks have been joined and some new locks have been started. I currently have three baby locks... about a finger length each. Over a year ago I counted 505 locks...
On 12/22/10 reached three years since the big chop- My nappiversary! I am loving my natural hair.
I am a graduate with my BS in Education and Psychology. I am a third year high school teacher. Currently working on my Masters of Education. Set to graduate in July 2010. HAPPY NEW YEAR (10')!!!!
Yesterday I finished my last graduate class. I walk across to get my degree in 10 days! Time for celebration!
Transition: 7 months
Transition style: Braids (5 months)
Big Chop: December 22nd, 2007 @ 11:08 a.m.
Last perm: May 20th, 2007
Goal: LOng thick healthy moisturized beautiful hair that flows down my back.

Hair History. When I was about 8 or 9 I begged my mom to let me get my hair permed. I mean begged! I thought I was the ish when I finally got the creamy crack [perm], and it kept me addicted for years. I was blinded by the consequences, because I thought it was the way. My beautiful black hair slowly declined. No more enjoying the summers in the pool without reaping the results of damaging my hair.
Braids became my enemy, but ever so often I would get them despite what they could do to my permed hair. In high school my hair and the braids disagreed big time and I had to cut my hair shorter than i had ever [at that time] -to my ears. I said I'll give the perm a rest and I started pressing. It was only a step to get back to the perm. I told myself I would press it to let my hair grow and become stronger. But it hadn't clicked that when I went back to the perm I was reversing the progress.. going backwards... not improving only getting worse.
So I let a few years pass and I got braids again. Stupid of me, right? The same results occurred. I had to get all of my split ends and damaged strands cut again. With a good beautician I recovered with the perm, once again. Or so I thought I had.
Finally a friend of mine made the BIG step [by going natural]. I still was not convinced.. I was willing to make the perm work some way or another. But I started to consider it. The more I saw how pretty and healthy her hair looked, and how great the styles looked the more I entertained the idea of going natural. I had been under the impression that I would only be able to wear a fro or that maybe my hair was too nappy to wear natural. I was deceiving myself.
I toyed with the decision more for seven months. I had been back and forth with the choice. After transitioning with braids, I finally decided to cut off the permed ends on December 22nd, 2007. I know I made the right decision.
