The slow passage of time...

A fitting description of what my journey has been recently. The decision to go natural came about after I'd required a certain hairstyle for a play I was going to be in, and my hairstylist said there was no way she could help me because my hair was too thin!

Now I've been accused of worse things, but thinning hair?! Are you kidding me?! As I sat in the chair and she attempted to do something that looked terrible on me I decided:

1. No more lye!
2. Unless it was doing microbraids, no one would touch my hair but me.

So in March of 2001 I sat outside on the porch and my little brother cut it all off. By August I'd started locing my hair and would continue the process while I went to school. About 8 months before I graduated from the University of Kansas, my best friend had convinced me to get rid of my locks.

I wouldn't have done it but for 2 strong reasons.
1. My field is mainly white and male (engineering) and while they don't understand hair at all, they still bear prejudices. They want hair to be straight and long and I needed a job!
2. I was way too attached to my locs. Understandable since I'd taken very good care of my hair and spent 3 hours every Sunday washing, conditioning and twisting new growth. I loved my hair. But I needed to grow differently. If I've learned to accept the kink of my hair, how can I show that I revel in that knowledge.

I'm determined to have a great head of hair like I've seen in some people's profiles. I've spent quite a bit of time repenting coz the green eyed monster came to visit. I figured there are a number of people who have walked this road and will know where I can find stuff to use and how to use it.

I think there should be a 4c for my type of hair. If I pluck a strand and wet it, it coils into a perfect circle approximately 1mm. It's fairly strong and healthy (been using olive oil) but I'm interested in dressing it differently and looking like a godess (tee hee!)

I'd also very much like to make friends, and what better crowd that those committed to a journey that resembles mine? I'll be visiting your pages and I hope to get to know you!
