My last relaxer was Feb. 2005 for one of my best friends wedding. I don't think there was something specific that turned the light on, but I decided that weekend that that would be my last relaxer.
I had just moved to Chicago, I was making new friends, and I was determined to straighten my hair until all the perm was out...I had no idea what I was talking about. Did I reallly think I could safely straighten my hair for a year without my actual hair breaking off. Well it started breaking off, and I finally cut it off.
It was definitely scary, and I was afraid of what people would think. But now I don't give a damn! I love my fro, I love my naps, and so do the people who tell me at least. And that alone makes me feel good.
This process is truly a journey, and I'm lovin' the ride!
I hope by joining fotki I can learn from women who knows how difficult, but freeing this process is.
