I've been going back and forth about whether or not I want to transition to natural. I've tried 3 times: first time was 7 months, second time 9 months and this last time 6 months. I think because right now I'm more focused on length than being natural. I really do want to be natural but I just made it APL which is the first time in my life! So now I want to see how long I can grow it! I still plan on waiting as long as possible between relaxers, at least 4-6 months.

So my last relaxer was 8/9/09 and I decided that I was going to transition again! lol I did a medium chop in December, it was a bob type of haircut. Then on February 11, 2010, 6 months post I did the BIG CHOP! It felt so good to cut all that hair off, BUT I wasn't ready to face the world. I immediately looked up youtube videos on how to do kinky twists and the next day I put them in! I wore them until April 5th, so about 7 wks and on April 6th I finally wore my hair out! I couldn't believe it but I actually liked it. I always thought my head was too big to wear a twa but I actually think I look cute with it. I've gotten positive feedback from the people that have seen it, so I'm happy! After 3 yrs of trying to go natural I finally did it! I'm excited to start this new journey! I don't really have a regimen yet or staple products.

I plan on washing and deep conditioning every week
Moisturizing and sealing every night
Doing big twists and tuck (Dr. Akbari method) every night for a curly fro

shampoo: Giovanni smooth as silk
conditioner:Giovanni smooth as silk
protein: Giovanni smooth as silk
deep conditioner: Any lustrasilk conditioner
moisturizer: unrefined shea butter mixed w/evco&evoo ( not sure if its a moisturizer)

Update 6-3-10: I've been wearing my hair out for 2 months, been natural for 4 months and its been 10 months since my last relaxer! I am so excited to reach my 1 year relaxer free anniversary! It is definitely a big accomplishment for me. But anyhoo, I have still been wearing my curly fro but instead of headbands, I've been using bobby pins to pin one or both sides back. Its been helping create new styles with my curly fro. I also start wearing a puff today and hopefully make it apart of my staple styles. As far a routine and products...I have only been washing and deep conditioning my hair every 3-4 weeks. I know that sounds disgusting but I'm about to graduate in 9 days( with my BSN) and have been soooo busy that I barely have time to do it. since my hair is so short it seems like it takes longer to wash, condition, and detangle it than with my longer hair. Once it gets longer and I have more time I definitely want to wash it at least every 2 weeks.

I have found THE BEST MOISTURIZER for MY HAIR!!!!!! It is Miss Jessie's BABY BUTTERCREAM! I l LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! I've never had anything moisturize my hair so well and it last so long...like 4 days. Its incredible! i only initially bought it because I heard it smells really good lol but I was amazed how moisturizing it was for my hair. It was definitely worth the $58 I spent at target. I think this will be the only product I need besides shampoo and conditioners. Maybe some coconut oil for shine. I still do the twist&tuck everynight and wear a curly fro. I cannot wait until my hair gets longer so that I can do more styles! Next update should be at my 1 yr relaxer free anniversary.
