 | I've been doing hair since I was 7 ....really! My mom used to do my sister's and my hair and we hated it. . . We would then do (play in) each other's hair. I've been relaxed, pressed and curled, and even rocked a wave nouveau. Wave Noveau grew my hair out crazy fast, to bsl to be exact, but I still ended up going back to a relaxer b/c I wanted my hair to be "straight." Through out high school, my hair was a mess. It had been damaged from color, experiments and lack of knowledge. I couldn't understand why I could do my friend's hair and watch it grow, but mine would just stay the same or get damaged even more. My mom said that I played with my hair too much and that was the reason....she was right. My first semester of college, I decided to give my hair a break and wear micro braids. My hair would grow, but my edges got a beaten. During my sophmore year, I discovered twists. I purchased some really expensive twist hair (like the kind Khamit Kinks sells) and wore them 5 months straight. My hair seemed to grow over night! I would take the twist down one at a time to redo and freshen up my hairline, this is when I noticed my natural hair texture. It was beautiful, curly, and soft. I contemplated going natural, but was scared and ended up with a relaxer once again. I am now a senior in college, truly ready to take this natural journey.....along with my sister, mother, and close friend. Many on this site have inspired me! I think if others knew what they possesed under all that chemical, they would stop living the lye.
