Well I've been on here awhile so I guess it's time to share more about me. Everybody here has their own reason for why they started locing. At 1st I just always loved to see people with locs. Some of the most creative minds I can think of happen to be people with locs. Eric Jerome Dickey, Bob marley, Lauren Hill, I mean the list goes on forever with so many poets, writers, musicans, athletes and what not. I always thought there was some majestic power to it in my own mind.

After a certain turn of events in 2004 I decided to grow my hair and not cut it again until the day I find the person worth me cutting my hair for:) So when I find that speical someone to make a brother head to the barber shop I'll know that's the person I can spend the rest of my life with. My last cut was march 04'. Then there was the nappy afro stage where your hair is to long to brush but to short to do anything with. Then there was the comb twist stage...Loved that! Of course soon came the braid stage which I stayed in for like a year and a half. I think I damn near had my hair braided almost every way possible at some point. Then in about Mar. 06' I got tired of getting my hair braided the same way and I got real tired of trying to find somebody to keep it fresh so then I begun my Loc journey which brings me to present. It's been a year and I can't wait to see what's to come this year....Unless that speical person sneeks in:):)

Maintence:

When I 1st started my locs because of the nature of my job and the way I workout and run whatever I had to get retwisted like almost every week and a half cause I had locs coming loose and all. After some time went by i was going only once a month. Now that i've pasted the year mark I can go almost 2 months if I wanted to. I'm trying to get to a point where I only go for special events or If I feel like getting "so fresh, so clean"

Between visits I alternate back and forth from week to week. I saw this on the DreadHead.com site and it's worked good for me.

Week 1: I wash with Knotty boy dread shampoo From the Knotty boy website. Peppermint and it cleans real well. After I dry some I spray on Loc accelerator from the Dreadhead site. I swear this stuff helps your loc mature about 5 months faster then normal. I still use to create new knots and all. As you can see im a product junkie myself so I like different oils and stuff so lately I've been using Kemi oil. Smell great and it's not heavy...plus I don't sweat it all out when im at work.

Week 2: I wash the same way but I also use JML Dread conditioner. when im all done with that I use Loc accelerator and then I use the Knotty boy Dread wax. I use to try and twist my whole head but that takes forever and I realized that the locs in the back of my head normally stay pretty tight actually. So now I just palm roll from the front of my head back to like where my ears are. I normally put my hair into two loc tails in the front and Get my roll on while im watching the game or CSI:) Sometimes I twist up one side of my head and do the other side the next day depending on how tired im feeling. It's not picture perfect like going to the shop but it's presentable and im not walking around looking like Lil John and the eastside boys:):)
