- My hair journey started years ago. I remember finally getting my hair relaxed right before going to junior highschool. I did some serious damage back then. I followed Mary J Blige and dyed my hair all types of colors from honey blonde to auburn just to follow her.
Around 1995 I had settled on jet black hair because of a girl I saw in a music video. In 1996 while on spring break back home, I cut my hair in a short Halle Berry style. I kept it like that for the most part.
In January of 1998 I got engaged and my hair was still short but it was all even about earlength. That year I got married and had my first child. By the end of 1998, my hair was shoulder length.
Two years later in December of 2000 I gave birth to my second daughter Destiny. My hair was brastrap length.
In October of 2001 we relocated to NM. The weather was dry and my hair wasn't thriving. It was mid back and I hated it. I decided to go natural. My goal was to transition back into a relaxer.
In January 2002, I had my hair cut to just above shoulder length and wore braids for about a year. I would get them redone every 2-3 months. I had my last child in October of 2002.
In April of 2003, I cut the remaining relaxer off and was all natural. I played around with hair color and was just really getting the hang of my hair.
By Summer of 2005, I was brastrap length again.
On October 1, of 2005 I decided to cut it off again. I was going through so much in my life and wanted to make a clean start. I had about a 2-3 inch short fro and I was in love. My hair rebelled and it grew like a weed and my fro was looking lop-sided. So I braided it up again. I pretty much let it do it's own thing.
In March/April of 2007 I got my hair pressed for Easter and it was past shoulder length.
Two years after my bc, in October 2007 my hair was brastrap length again. I didn't even pay attention to it. I decided to wear it straight while out of town and realized how much it had grown.
In February 2008 I was named Feature of the Month on long hair care forum. I made it to my natural waist in December of 2008. I decided to cut my hair back to BSL in 2009. Right now I am looking into organizations in order to donate my hair. My husband is not happy with my decision, lol. But I am taking my time before I jump into it.
I also have 3 girls who are natural with 3 different textures of hair. It is hard sometimes keeping up with theirs and mine but I have learned some tips and tricks that have helped along the way. Thanks for reading my hair story. Thank you to all the people who stop by and have friended me. I'm sorry I am not on here as much as I would like but I appreciate all of you. Q
