Prior to 2000, I had been permed for too many years to count. Had worn every style and color imaginable. I had a situation where I braided my hair while it was permed and it loc'd and tangled all up and I panic'd trying to comb it out and had a couple of bald spots that I spent many years trying to hide.

I first went natural in 2000 when I relocated to Indianapolis. I couldn't find anyone to do my hair so I started wearing single braids. I was still having issues with thinning, from the previous incident and then stress from a relationship I was in.

In 2002 I got a perm. Biggest mistake I ever made. I hated it. It made my already thin hair look thinner. Exactly a year to the date I went back natural and have been ever since.

I had been thinking about locing and September 19, 2006 I did. The freedom of it is liberating.

The truth of the matter is that I didn't feel really pretty until I looked in that mirror and saw this crown of locs on my head. Not that I felt ugly but I spent so much time adding stuff to orniment myself and making myself look more "acceptable" to everybody elses standards and now it feels good to just be me!
