I am so excited about this hair journey, and I am happy that I can document it and share it with others and to also keep myself focused with caring for my hair.
I have been relaxed since the age of 7 years old. I never knew my natrual hair. I grew up with the mentality that natural hair is ugly or hard, and whenever just a few inches grew, it was as if relaxer was the cure for this "hideousness" growint out of my scalp. I went along with this for 18 years. Went through countless breakages and grow backs. Untill recently I got FED UP! Your hair is supposed to be your joy not a plague in your life.
My last incident was in Sept 2008 when my hair was at a significant length and I decided I needed a change. So I dyed it. Then of course I saw some NG appearing so I ran and relaxed it 2 weeks later... HUGEEE mistake. My hair just started to come out bit by bit. The edges were the first to go.. Then the back. So of course I though relaxing was the "cure". And my stylist refused to relx it and she said my hair needed a break which was true... So I went back to old faithful and got a sew-in for 6 weeks.
After I took down the sew-in I went right bach to my stylist and got me some "creamy crack"! I got a cute bob and it seemed like all would be ok... Haha... yeah right... Breakage continued and I just got TIRED... At that point I put in a sew-in and then I started making a hair plan for my hair and went back to BHM which was my saviour in 2005. At first I was a lurker in the sew-in forum, then one day I crept into the Naturals forum and my eye slowly opened to the inevitable.. Week by week as I read the posts and all of these inspiring hair stories, I decided that I would take the leap and go natural! After sharing youtube videos and fotki albums with my friend shanda, we decided to embark on our natural journey together and encourage each other.
I am excited about this journey I am about to take and I neve felt more positive and confident about anything. And with that I give my stats:

Last relaxer: November 30th, 2008

Current NG May 18th, 2009: 2 and a half inches

Planned BC: May 30th, 2009!!!!!!

I will be alternating between sew-ins and braids as my protective styles to enhance my growth. I don't really have a growth target.. I just want to have my hair healthy and Divalicious!!!
