Hi, All!

Long story short: I transitioned for 8 months before doing my BC.
Last Relaxer: March 2008
BC: November 22, 2008

Reason for going natural: I was tired of getting relaxers, of always wearing my hair straight, and not having many style options except to cut it in a style. I also couldn't color my hair with a relaxer. I tried once and had lots of breakage. Overall, I've had no bad experiences from relaxers. It was pretty routine, but I got bored with it and I also just wanted to accept my hair for what it was & not continue to alter it. My hair grew long with a relaxer, so I'm sure I can achieve the same goal without the chemicals.

Regimen:
Pretty simple. I've tried many products but my staples are: unrefined, raw shea butter; extra-virgin coconut oil; water; vegetable glycerin; and Eco Styler Gel. Any other product I have listed in my "Products" album is occasional.

I shampoo about once every 2 weeks with Avalon Organic Shampoo.
Co-wash weekly with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration or Aubrey Organics Conditioners.

Detangle hair in the shower with conditioner still in my hair.

*Twist-out styles: apply Kinky Curly Knot Today for my leave-in, Olive Oil to seal in moisture, and then make 12-15 twists all over applying a small amount of eco styler gel or a product that gives hold (like Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue). Let air dry and unravel and style. When wearing twist outs, at night I pull my hair into a high and loose ponytail and sleep with a satin bonnet. If it gets frizzy or loses definition, I will retwist at night by dampening hair in sections with my spray bottle and adding coconut oil if hair feels dry.

*Wash-and-go/puffs: apply Kinky Curly Knot Today, then something to define my curls like Miss Jessie's Silkening Cream or Kinky Curly Curling Custard.

Other than that, wrap my hair up at night with a satin scarf or bonnet, and that's it.

Update: March 2010
- Doing more protective styling now. My hair has gotten longer and is so time-consuming to do every day or every other day. I've been wearing my hair in two-strand twists and just styling the twists in different updo's. I let my hair airdry until it's mostly dry, then take small sections (I don't part w/combs or anything), apply my shea butter/coconut oil mix to the section I'm about to twist, and twist it all the way down, twirling the ends. I do this all over until I am done and left w/small twists over my whole head. Then I just use bobby pins to pin it up in various styles.

Update: November 2010
- My 2 year natural hair anniversary is November 22nd! Time flew by and my hair has grown A LOT. I am happy with the progress and overall health of my hair. I haven't had many issues except sometimes I just don't feel like doing my hair (Lol). But I keep it as simple as possible and that cuts down on a lot time being spent on styling my hair. I also haven't been buying a ton of products for my hair. I still have my staples. Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In is my ultimate favorite. I love being natural, it truly was the best decision I could have ever made for my hair.

Update: March 2011
-Starting with Month 29 I'm going to start posting update pics in groups of about 2-3 months or so. I haven't been doing much different with my hair, except trying to DC more and be more consistent in the overall care/maintenance of it. It has been a lot less dry which was the goal. So far so good. :) Hope you ladies are enjoying your journey as much as I.
