- Hello. I was led here by all the women I saw sharing their experiences on caring for and styling natural hair on nappturality. I have a baby born july 06 and I am currently working from home selling clothes on ebay. I have a bachelor degree in marketing but my true passion is hair and fashion (mens, womens, buying, selling, etc.) I haven't put a relaxer in my hair since jan 06 (didnt wan't to perm it while pregnant). I've been wearing braids and sew-ins until my BC in Feb 07. I've BC'd before during undergrad and ended up going back to the creamy crack pretty much because of a lack of knowledge on how to care for my hair and a lack of support from my peers.
My sister and mom and a few of my cousins have natural hair and locs and they look great. They were also a source of inspiratin for me to do this. I'm definetly going to stay away from the creamy crack forever but I'm gonna need some support! :) I plan on twisting, updoes, and any other styles I can wear that will last. I'm a busy single mom with a child who does not like to be put down and so many things that need to be done all the time. If anyone would like to give me tips on products and technique to use, they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you much. Peace and Love :)
UPDATE for 08! I've been gone from fotki and nappturality for 11 months. A lot has been going on. I started cosmetology school at an Aveda Institute in jan 08! It's been a real blast going there everyday and doing what I've wanted to do since I was twelve. I'm finally DOING HAIR! I've also been working at an Aveda salon/spa as a guest care coordinator for almost a year. My camera was stolen out of my car in 02/08 and that has really slowed down my hair documentation. However, I have rebounded and purchased a new camera (although not as good as my old one, it'll do to fool with;) in late july. So even though I'm an extremely busy individual, I really missed the fotki ladies and I feel that my documentation was really important so in short: I'M BACK!!!
As for my hair, it suffered a minor mishap. I got it in my head to color it and asked the stylist to give me a demi-permanent color. I wanted demi because I knew my ends probably couldn't deal with permanent since they had been previously colored (botched box color job). Anyhoo, she put in a permanent color (which you could barely even see) and my ends all ended up breaking off. So, I went in for a color and came out with a nice chemical cut. Why did she do this? Hell if I know. Guess she wasn't listening. But, it grows back, so it really is a minor setback. It does make me kinda sad to see that my hair is shorter now that it was when I first started this thing but, it is what it is! - General Information
